'Normal For Him To Cry...': Smriti Irani, Yogi & Other BJP Leaders Slam Rahul Gandhi Over Remarks In UK

Many senior BJP leaders including PM Modi slammed Rahul Gandhi over his recent remarks, while union minister Smriti Irani explicitly mentioned Gandhi, UP CM Adityanath, and PM's swipe remained veiled.

The Bhartiya Janata Party appeared in a full-form on Sunday, as several senior party leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, attacked Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his recent remarks in the United Kingdom. Union Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani slammed former Congress President, saying he anticipates defeat in the 2024 general elections.

She further taking a swipe at the Wayanad MP said: "It is natural for him to shed tears due to his defeat in Amethi. Today, the country has become the world's fifth economic power. But instead of respecting it, Gandhi's unrestrained statement shows he has an apprehension that he will be defeated again in 2024".

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Irani defeated Gandhi in the Amethi parliamentary constituency.

Gandhi told British parliamentarians in London on March 6 that functioning microphones in the Lok Sabha are frequently silenced against the Opposition. He made the remark at an event hosted by veteran Indian-origin Opposition Labour Party MP Virendra Sharma in the House of Commons complex's Grand Committee Room.

UP CM Yogi Adityanath On Rahul Gandhi:

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said on Sunday, in a veiled hit on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his recent remarks, that although India's influence on global platforms is expanding, certain people are criticising the country on foreign soil.

"Those who are criticising Indian democracy today are the same people who left no stone unturned when given the opportunity to strangle democracy itself," Adityanath remarked without naming anyone.

Speaking at an event in Gorakhpur, he said that although Prime Minister Narendra Modi is making India famous around the world, certain people are "trying to defame" it.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a veiled jab at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi without mentioning him, saying that some people in London questioned India's democracy – the same country where a statue of Guru Basaveshwara resides.
