KC Venugopal 'Manhandled' By Police During Delhi Protest, Congress Tweets Video

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra later visited the Tughlaq Road Police Station to meet 59-year-old Venugopal, who was detained there along with the other workers of the grand old party.

New Delhi: Indian Youth Congress president Srinivas BV on Monday tweeted a video showing his senior party colleague KC Venugopal being "manhandled" by Delhi Police personnel as they were detaining Congress workers to stop them from taking part in a protest march. Congress workers and leaders held protests across several states against the Enforcement Directorate's summons to their leader Rahul Gandhi in the National Herald money laundering case.

"This behaviour of Delhi Police with a sitting Rajya Sabha MP and AICC General Secretary @kcvenugopalmp ji is highly condemnable," Srinivas BV tweeted sharing the video in which Venugopal can be seen being forcibly lifted by the police personnel.

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra later visited the Tughlaq Road Police Station to meet 59-year-old Venugopal, who was detained there along with the other workers of the grand old party.

The Delhi Police personnel detained scores of Congress workers when they tried to reach the AICC headquarters in the national capital in Rahul Gandhi’s support.

The Delhi Police had, in view of the planned march by the Congress leaders and workers from the party office to the Enforcement Directorate office in solidarity with Rahul Gandhi, blocked all entry points and roads leading to the AICC headquarters.

The Congress, which has accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government of misusing the investigative agencies to target political opponents, had said its protest march is meant to highlight the matter.

The Congress leader was today questioned by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering probe related to the National Herald newspaper.

The 51-year-old politician, who entered the headquarters of the central probe agency at around 11 a.m., was allowed by the central probe agency to leave for lunch at around 2:10 p.m.

The Wayanad MP returned to the Enforcement Directorate office for second round of questioning at around 3:30 p.m.

This development took place even as almost the entire top leadership of the Congress, the party’s two Chief Ministers Ashok Gehlot and Bhupesh Baghel and its Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MPs staged a protest along with workers holding placards and shouting slogans from the AICC headquarters to the Enforcement Directorate office.
