Schools in Delhi are preparing to welcome students but parents are still apprehensive about sending their children to schools to attend physical classes.

New Delhi: Amid declining cases of Covid-19, schools in Delhi will reopen for students from classes nursery to 8 from today. The decision was taken by the government during DDMA meeting held on February 4.  Students will return to schools after over a year of online classes.

Schools in Delhi are preparing to welcome students but parents are still apprehensive about sending their children to schools to attend physical classes.

Notably, schools were reopened for a brief period (December 18-December 28), but in view of the third wave caused by the Omicron virus, they were closed again.

The mandatory consent required from parents has been done away with by the Central government and is now upto the states to decide. The capping on number of students to 50 percent of the strength as also been changed. The school administration will now decide the numbers based on their infrastructure.

However, following Covid-19 safety protocols are mandatory. The DDMA has released guidelines for schools, colleges and universities to follow as they begin reopening.

On February 7, the Delhi government had ordered schools  for classes 9 to 12, colleges and universities to reopen.

Schools for classes nursery to class 8 in Uttar Pradesh have also been ordered to reopen from today. The decision was taken a few days after offline classes for students of 9-12 began on February 7 due to steep decline in Covid-19 cases in the state.

According to Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, 44,877 fresh Covid-19 cases were reported in the country on Sunday, which took the active caseload to 5,37,045.

The daily positivity rate has been recorded at 3.17 per cent, while the weekly positivity rate is 4.46 per cent.
