SC Orders Transfer Of 5 Cases From Unnao To Competent Court In Delhi
On Wednesday, the court had taken cognisance of the rape victim's letter to the CJI and had sought a report from its secretary general why it had not been brought to his notice since July 17.
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday ordered the transfer of five cases from Unnao to competent court in Delhi. The apex court said the designated judge in Delhi will commence the trial on day-to-day basis and complete the trial within 45 days. While reading the order, Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi said the shifting victim and lawyer to AIIMS in New Delhi can happen if the family wants.
The top court also asked the "responsible" officer of the CBI to submit details on the status of rape.
CJI announced compensation of Rs 25 lakh to the victim. "We have also considered the question of interim compensation to the victim, as an interim measure we direct the UP government to pay Rs 25 lakh as compensation to the victim.
The Rae Bareli CRPF Commandment has been asked to provide adequate security to the victim's family which has alleged threats from BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar and his henchmen.
"We also direct security & protection to the victim, her lawyer, mother of the victim, the four siblings of the victim, her uncle, and immediate family members in the village in Unnao.'
The Bench will continue the hearing on Friday to know if its directions had been carried out.
It has also asked Yogi-Adityanath government to inform whether the Unnao victim's uncle should also be shifted to Tihar from a jail in Rae Bareli.
The 2017 rape survivor and her lawyer are undergoing treatment at the Lucknow hospital after their vehicle was hit by a truck on Sunday.
