SC protects Kolkata top cop Rajeev Kumar from arrest; orders him to appear before court on Feb 20

CBI affidavit to SC further alleged that, "Companies who gave charity to TMC were protected". It further said that “entire SIT is under investigation; as SIT was conniving with the accused”. "Rajeev was SIT head and evidences were tampered" it said.

New Delhi: In a setback to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the Supreme Court on Tuesday ordered Kolkata police Commissioner to appear before it on February 20 over allegation levied by Central Bureau of Investigation on Sardha Chit fund scam case. The court also ordered Rajeev Kumar to cooperate with the probe agency during investigation. SC has asked Kumar to appear before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in Shillong, Meghalaya as a neutral place. The CBI also filed an affidavit against Rajeev Kumar in the apex court alleging that “there are several incriminating materials that were collected during the investigation by the CBI against the senior police officials as well as senior politicians”. CBI affidavit to SC further alleged that, "Companies who gave charity to TMC were protected". It further said that “entire SIT is under investigation; as SIT was conniving with the accused”. "Rajeev was SIT head and evidences were tampered" it said. In serious allegations CBI alleged that “SIT tampered evidence by erasing call record and computer data of main accused Sudipto Sen”. ALSO READ: WB CM claims ‘moral victory’ after SC bars CBI from arresting Kolkata top cop The CBI affidavit said “SIT constituted in the matter did not carry out its investigation properly and connived with the companies which gave TMC funds in the Chit fund scheme”. CBI affidavit further sad “investigation was being done by SIT and crucial evidence such as laptops, mobile phones etc were handed over to the main accused in Saradha scam case by the investigating officer of WB police working under direct supervision of Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar”. Matter adjourned in Calcutta HC: Meanwhile, the Calcutta HC adjourned the hearing in the case over the plea filed by Kolkata police till Thursday as the Supreme Court is seized of the matter.
