Savarkar's Grandson Lodges Complaint Against Rahul Gandhi For 'Insulting' Hindutva Ideologue

Addressing a press conference in Maharashtra during the party's 'Bharat Jodo Yatra', Rahul Gandhi accused Savarkar of helping the British.

Ranjit Savarkar, the grandson of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, registered a complaint against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for allegedly "insulting" the Hindutva ideologue, PTI reported. However, no FIR has been registered yet.

In a complaint lodged at Shivaji Park police station in Mumbai, Savarkar also demanded that Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole should be booked for "making similar statements".

"No FIR has been registered. We are conducting further probe," a police official told PTI.

Addressing a press conference at Wadegaon in Akola district during the party's 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' earlier in the day, Rahul Gandhi accused Savarkar of helping the British and writing mercy petitions to them out of fear.

"I will read the last line, which says 'I beg to remain your most obedient servant' and is signed V D Savarkar, which shows he helped the British," Gandhi said at the media interaction during his Bharat Jodo Yatra foot march which is in the last leg in Maharashtra.

Addressing a press conference in Maharashtra, the former Congress President said a superficial perception has been created that the grand old party was not putting up a fight against the ruling BJP.

"Opposition has no control over institutions, judiciary, and media... superficial perception that Congress not putting up a fight against BJP," he said, as reported by PTI.

He further alleged that there was an attempt to divert attention from Bharat Jodo Yatra, when asked if he is the Congress party's Prime Ministerial candidate for the 2024 general elections.

"I see two big problems, youths don't have the assurance of getting jobs and farmers don't get support from anywhere. The third is interlinked, people are paying for education and health as government schools, colleges and hospitals are shutting, so where is the money going?" Rahul Gandhi asked.

Rahul also dared the Eknath Shinde-led Maharashtra government to stop the Bharat Jodo Yatra.
