Sandeshkhali Violence: Victims Meet Prez Murmu, Seek Her Intervention To Address Issue

The memorandum expresses a strong belief that President Murmu's intervention will offer solace and relief to the oppressed people in Sandeshkhali.

New Delhi: Eleven victims of Sandeshkhali violence including five women met President Droupadi Murmu, in Rashtrapati Bhawan on Friday and sought her intervention "to safeguard the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe community" in Sandeshkhali, West Bengal. Director of the Center for SC/ST Support and Research, Partha Biswas, said that the victims submitted a memorandum to President Murmu.

According to news agency ANI, the victims gave a memorandum to the President of India regarding the issue of Sandeshkhali. 

"The President heard the whole matter with great sympathy and was very saddened by this. From the incident, 11 victims have come here today, out of which five are women and six are men," Biswas told ANI.

'Subjected To Severe Oppression And Injustice': Memorandum On Sandeshkhali

The Memorandum further stated, "We hope this letter finds you in good health and high spirits. We pray for your urgent intervention to safeguard the marginalized families from Sandeshkhali, West Bengal. The victims belong to the Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe community and have been subjected to severe oppression and injustice."

The memorandum highlighted the distressing circumstances faced by these families, emphasising the need for immediate attention and intervention.  "Given your esteemed position as the guardian of justice and equality in our nation, we believe that your guidance and assistance are crucial in addressing this matter effectively," it added. 

The memorandum expresses a strong belief that President Murmu's intervention will offer solace and relief to the oppressed people in Sandeshkhali, while also serving as a beacon of hope for marginalized communities throughout India. It acknowledges the President's esteemed wisdom and compassion, which are revered by millions across the nation.

The memorandum thanks President Murmu for considering their request and providing them with the opportunity to shed light on the plight of their community in West Bengal. They eagerly await the President's response and guidance on this serious issue, reported ANI.

Notably, the women of Sandeshkhali in North 24 Parganas district took to the streets in protest, alleging severe misconduct and atrocities committed by expelled TMC MLA Sheikh Shahjahan and his associates.

Among the accusations leveled against Shahjahan and his aides are allegations of land-grabbing and sexual assault, with multiple women reporting coercion in these instances.
