Ex-RG Kar Principal Sandip Ghosh Moves SC, Says Cal HC 'Unnecessarily Linked Corruption To Rape'

The former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Sandip Ghosh moved the Supreme Court against the Calcutta High Court order transferring investigation in the corruption case against him to CBI

Kolkata Doctor Rape And Murder Case: The former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital Sandip Ghosh, on Wednesday moved the Supreme Court against the Calcutta High Court order transferring investigation in the corruption case against him to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Gosh contends that ‘principles of natural justice’ was not applied in his case.

Gosh has also sought deletion of certain remarks by the high court against him

On August 23, the High Court had ordered the transfer of the probe into the alleged financial irregularities at RG Kar hospital, where the incident of brutal rape and murder of a doctor occured. Earlier, the case was with a Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by West Bengal government. The High Court tranfered the case to CBI.

The Supreme Court will hear the case this week. In an earlier hearing, in the suo motu case of rape and murder at the hospital, the CJI Chandrachud led bench had taken strong exception of the Principal's conduct in reporting the crime as suicide. The apex court had also questioned West Bengal government's move to appoint him to another medical college, just after his resignation over the rape and murder of a trainee doctor.

Sandip Ghosh was arrested by the CBI in a corruption case on Monday. A CBI official said that the former principal of the RG Kar Hospital was arrested over 'financial misconduct' in the medical establishment.

The former principal of the medical college, where the trainee doctor died on on August 9, was interrogated at the agency’s Salt Lake office. The agency's Anti Corruption Branch department later picked up Ghosh from the special crime branch office in the evening and took him to the Nizam Palace, after which he was arrested.

Along with Ghosh, two vendors Biplav Singha and Suman Hazara and Additional Security to Sandip Ghosh Afsar Ali have also been arrested.

Reportedly, there were several complaints of financial fraud against the former principal. The hospital's former deputy superintendent Dr Akhtar Ali had lodged complaints of financial irregularities on multiple counts at the establishment during Ghosh's tenure as principal.
