RJD Supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav Makes First Public Appearance In 3 Yrs, Says Party's Future Is 'Bright'

RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav inaugurated the party's silver jubilee celebrations virtually. This is his first public appearance in almost 3 years.

Patna: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president Lalu Prasad Yadav and his wife Rabri Devi on Monday celebrated the party's foundation day as RJD completed 25 years since formation.

Significantly, besides the RJD reaching its silver jubilee, the day is made important by the fact that its supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav has been absent from the public eye serving his jail sentence and this is his first public appearance in almost 3 years.

RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav inaugurated the party's silver jubilee celebrations virtually. Speaking to the party workers, he said that the party has reached this point because of years of hard work.

He congratulated all workers while expressing regret over not being physically present with them. I congratulate the people of Bihar and the country for participating in the Silver Jubilee.

"RJD's future is very bright. I have seen five PMs and helped them become so. I was made Union Minister but was not cared about. We will take the nation forward in the coming days. Inflation and unemployment have broken the backs of people," Lalu Prasad Yadav said.

The veteran leader stressed that the party has the power of the people supporting it, especially the minority communities who are also poor.

While RJD lost its recent bid to gain power in Bihar, the party chief was seen instilling confidence in members and the party's support base as he said: "I want to convince people that we are not going to step back. We will not break. My rule was the rule of the poor".

"RJD farmers, youth, students and the party should undergo regular training. People believe that RJD will bring an end to ongoing problems," he asserted.

Prison Term

In 2017, Lalu Prasad Yadav was convicted in a case related to withdrawals from the Deoghar Treasury and he was sent to the Birsa Munda prison. The RJD chief was convicted in four cases related to the multi-crore fodder scam by March 2018.

In April this year, the Jharkhand High Court granted bail to the RJD president in the Dumka treasury case of the multi-crore rupees fodder scam, paving way for his release from jail.

Speaking about this earlier, an RJD spokesperson had said: "Lalu Prasad Yadav is out on bail and his health is not keeping well. But party workers demanded having an interaction with Lalu Yadav. Lalu refused to meet due to health reasons, but he would deliver a speech on the party's foundation day on July 5".
