Stalin-Led Tamil Nadu Govt To Skip Governor RN Ravi's Republic Day 'At Home' Reception

Republic Day 2025: This year, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay is also invited to the Governor's tea party to be held at Raj Bhavan in Chennai.

Republic Day 2025: The Tamil Nadu government is set to boycott Governor RN Ravi's Republic Day reception scheduled to be held at Raj Bhavan in Chennai on Sunday. Earlier, the DMK's allies including Congress, MDMK, VCK and Left parties announced that they are boycotting the Governor's Republic Day reception.

Additionally, this year, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay is invited to the Governor's tea party.

TN Govt Vs Governor

Though DMK and its allies have been boycotting the tea parties organised by Governor RN Ravi for Independence and Republic Days for the past couple of years, CM Stalin and a few of his Cabinet colleagues attended the tea party organised for Independence Day in 2024. However, this time, yet again Stalin-led government has decided to skip the reception for Republic Day on January 26, 2025. The move comes amid differences between Tamil Nadu government and Governor over several issues such as the Governor's walkout from the Assembly and appointment of Vice Chancellor for Universities.

Additionally, the Republic Day tea party also comes amid Supreme Court making strong observations over the tussle between Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi and DMK-led government. The Apex Court, during the recent hearing, directed them to sort the issue over passing of bills within the next hearing and if not it warned that it would resolve the differences.

At the same time, there were issues between government and Governor on Day 1 of Tamil Nadu Assembly session of 2025. On January 6, Governor R N Ravi did not deliver his customary address during the first session of the state legislative assembly citing a serious issue concerning the National Anthem. According to a statement from the office of Raj Bhavan, upon the Governor's arrival at the assembly, only "Tamil Thai Vazhthu," the state anthem, was sung instead of the National Anthem, which is traditionally played during such occasions, as per a report on ANI. Following this, the Conngress and the DMK protested against the act even as the Assembly speaker continued to read out the translated version of the Governor's adress.
