RCB Expresses Grief Over Bengaluru Stampede After IPL Win, Urges Supporters To Stay Safe

Following a stampede-like incident in Bengaluru after RCB's victory, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru issued a statement expressing grief over the loss of lives and offering condolences to the bereaved families.

Hours after stampede-like situation in Bengaluru during the big RCB celebrations following big IPL victory, the team on Wednesday has issued an official statement mourning the loss of lives and has extended condolences to the affected families. The team has said that the safety and well-being of everyone is of utmost importance to them.

"We are deeply anguished by the unfortunate incidents that have come to light through media reports regarding public gatherings all over Bengaluru in anticipation of the team’s arrival this afternoon. The safety and well-being of everyone is of utmost importance to us," RCB said in a post on X.

11 people died and 33 were injured following the stampede near the Chinnaswamy Stadium, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said and he announced Rs 10 lakh compensation to the kin of those deceased.

The winner of IPL 2025, RCB, further added that upon learning of the situation, the team immediately revised its schedule in consultation with local authorities. It has also urged fans and supporters to prioritize safety and remain cautious during such public events.

"RCB mourns the tragic loss of lives and extend our heartfelt condolences to the affected families. Immediately upon being made aware of the situation, we promptly amended our program, and followed, the guidance and advice of the local administration. We urge all our supporters to please stay safe," the team further added.

 

The stampede took place when thousands of fans attempted to enter the stadium from various gates. Police had a tough time controlling the crowd, triggering chaos and turning a joyful event into a tragedy.Police used mild force to control the crowd and bring the situation under control ahead of a special felicitation at the stadium for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) team organised by the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA).

Meanwhile, the felicitation of the players went ahead nonetheless as the stadium was packed to the rafters despite the chaos outside the stadium.People were seen collapsing, visuals showed police shifting the injured persons and those who fell unconscious in ambulances to nearby hospitals. Visuals also showed some of those who were in an unconscious state being administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) by those nearby. The injured were hospitalised at Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital in Shivajinagar and other hospitals. According to hospital sources, deaths could have been caused due to suffocation. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the stampede as absolutely heartrending.

"In this tragic hour, my thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones. I pray that those who are injured have a speedy recovery," Modi said on X.
