Worm Found In Pongal At Bengaluru Airport’s Rameshwaram Cafe

A Rameshwaram Cafe customer at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru found a worm in his Pongal, purchased for Rs 300.

A customer’s early morning meal at the renowned Rameshwaram Cafe, located within Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru, took a disturbing turn, when he reportedly discovered a worm in his serving of Pongal. The incident occurred at approximately 7:42 AM on Thursday.

Customer Finds Worm In Pongal Served At Rameshwaram Cafe

The customer had purchased a plate of Pongal priced at Rs 300 and a filter coffee for Rs 180, bringing the total to Rs 504. However, as he began eating, he was shocked to find a worm in the dish. He immediately brought the issue to the attention of the cafe staff, as reported by Asianet.

While the hotel personnel admitted the lapse and termed it an oversight, the customer expressed disappointment with what he felt was a lacklustre and dismissive response.

The episode has sparked significant outcry and raised serious questions about the hygiene and food safety standards maintained at one of Bengaluru’s most popular food chains. As of now, the Rameshwaram Cafe management has not issued any official statement regarding the matter, reported NDTV.

Rameshwaram Cafe, a household name in Bengaluru, has built a loyal customer base over the years for its quick service and authentic South Indian cuisine. With outlets across the city, the cafe is a frequent stop for locals and tourists alike. Its airport branch, located in a high-footfall zone catering to domestic and international travellers, is considered a flagship location for the brand.

However, this is not the first time the cafe has come under public scrutiny. On March 1, 2024, the Whitefield outlet of Rameshwaram Cafe was targeted in an IED blast that left at least 10 people injured. The National Investigation Agency (NIA), which took over the investigation from the state police, later arrested five individuals in connection with the attack that rattled Bengaluru’s tech corridor.
