Rajnath Singh Launches Website That Allows Citizens To Contribute To Welfare Fund For Martyrs' Families

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has launched a website today enabling citizens to contribute financially to the Armed Forces Battle Casualties Welfare Fund

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh launched a website on Friday that would enable the citizens of India to financially contribute to the Armed Forces Battle Casualties Welfare Fund (AFBCWF). The portal, named 'Maa Bharati Ke Sapoot' (MBKS), was launched during a function that was held at the National War Memorial complex in New Delhi.

Speaking at the event, Rajnath Singh said, "This program is dedicated to our heroes. Our country is safe because of their sacrifice. Whether it is to win wars or fight for India's integrity or counter terrorist activities from across the border, our armed forces have responded to challenges with great enthusiasm."

Ten next of kin of fallen heroes and soldiers disabled in active military operations were felicitated at the event by Rajnath Singh. Parents and relatives of many war decorated soldiers were also invited.

AFBCWF is a tri-service fund utilised for grant of immediate financial assistance to the next of kin and dependents of battle casualties.

In a statement, the Defence Ministry said the website was launched to simplify the process for patriotic Indians to join this noble cause.

"While the government of India has initiated a large number of welfare schemes for the soldiers killed or disabled during active military operations in the line of duty, there has been a strong public sentiment and requests from patriotic citizens, corporate heads or industry captains, to contribute to the cause of welfare of the soldiers and their families," the statement said.

According to the statement, actor Amitabh Bachchan warmly accepted to be the "Goodwill Ambassador".

The chief of defence staff, the heads of all three services, numerous Param Vir Chakra awardees, other well-known ministry officials, various corporate heads, chairman and managing directors of banks, notable serving sports professionals, and other celebrities attended the function.
