Rajnath Singh Inaugurates Nechiphu Tunnel In Arunachal Pradesh Among 90 Other BRO Projects

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday inaugurated Nechiphu tunnel in Arunachal Pradesh among 90 other projects of the Border Road Organisation at a cost of Rupees 2,941 crore. The projects span across 10 border states of the northern and northeast region, as per an official statement. In a ceremony organised at

Devak Bridge on Bishnah-Kaulpur-Phulpur Road in Jammu and Kashmir, the Union minister inaugurated 22 roads, 63 bridges, Nechiphu Tunnel in Arunachal Pradesh, two airfields in West Bengal and two helipads.

Out of all the 90 projects, 11 have been constructed in Jammu and Kashmir, 26 each in Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh, 5 in Mizoram, 3 in Himachal Pradesh, 2 each in Sikkim, Uttarakhand and West Bengal and 1 each in Nagaland, Rajasthan and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

As per a senior BRO official, one of the important infrastructures inaugurated at the event was the 500-metre long Nechiphu tunnel on Balipara-Charduar-Tawang Road in Arunachal Pradesh, according to an ANI report.

This tunnel, along with under construction Sela Tunnel will provide an all-weather connectivity to the strategic Tawang region and will be beneficial to both the armed forces deployed in the region and the tourists visiting pristine Tawang, the report added. 

Reconstructed and revamped Bagdogra and Barrackpore Airfields in West Bengal were also inaugurated. These airfields have been successfully reconstructed by BRO at a cost of Rs 529 cr.

E-Shilanyash of Nyoma Airfield in Ladakh was also carried out during the event which will be developed at a cost of Rs 218 cr for wide-ranging strategic air assets.
