BJP MLAs Meet Vasundhara Raje Again Amid Speculation Over Rajasthan CM Pick

BJP's newly elected MLAs meet Vasundhara Raje amid speculation over Rajasthan CM choice as the party is yet to formally announce the meeting of its legislative party.

In the midst of suspense regarding the Chief Ministerial candidate for Rajasthan, several newly elected BJP MLAs held discussions with former chief minister Vasundhara Raje at her Civil Lines residence on Sunday. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is yet to announce the legislature party meeting where the selection of the Chief Minister will be formalised.

Approximately 10 MLAs, including Ajay Singh and Babu Singh, were present at Raje's residence, according to party sources cited by news agency PTI. Raje, a two-time Chief Minister, is considered one of the frontrunners for the coveted role.

According to other inputs, among the MLAs who met Raje on Sunday were Colayat MLA Anshuman Singh Bhati, Degana MLA Ajay Singh Kilak, Shergarh MLA Babu Singh Rathore, Bilada MLA Arjun Lal, and Veer MLA Bahadur Singh Koli, son of former Cabinet Minister Natwar Singh.

Last week, Raje, known for her political acumen, hosted about 25 winning MLAs at her residence in a significant political move. The meeting was seen as a "show of strength" within the party. Following that, she met with JP Nadda on Thursday and discussed the political scenario in Rajasthan.

The BJP, having secured 115 seats in the recently concluded assembly elections, is yet to announce the Chief Ministerial nominee. The Congress, in contrast, secured 69 seats out of 199, with elections in Karanpur scheduled for January 5, 2024.

The BJP has appointed three observers, including Union Minister Rajnath Singh, to oversee the legislature party meeting and is expected to make a formal announcement in the coming days.

Notably, Rajasthan BJP's Baba Balaknath, said to be among the contenders, met party chief JP Nadda and the BJP's central observers on Friday, as per NDTV's report. The central observers and Rajasthan-specific observer Saroj Pandey were present with Balaknath in the meeting which also included JP Nadda, the report mentioned.

The list of contenders for the Chief Minister's position in Rajasthan is long and includes key figures like Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Ashwini Vaishnav, Arjun Meghwal, CP Joshi, Baba Balaknath, Rajyavardhan Singh, Diya Kumari, Kirori Lal Meena, Om Birla, and Om Mathur.
