Rain Alert Today: IMD Predicts More Showers in Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru And Chennai — Check Forecast

Heavy rainfall continued to batter Mumbai and its suburbs, causing widespread waterlogging. Delhi and Chennai are also expected to witness light showers today.

Weather Forecast: India's financial Mumbai and suburbs continue to grapple with heavy rainfall, impacting daily life across the city. Incessant downpours over the past few days have inundated various neighbourhoods, leading to widespread waterlogging in the city. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) warned of more showers over the city on Saturday (September 28). The national capital Delhi and surrounding areas are also likely to witness generally cloudy sky with light rain or drizzle.

In Chennai also, skies are likely to remain partly cloudy throughout the day, with thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by light to moderate rain in some areas, the MeT department said. As per the weather agency, moderate showers are also very likely to occur in a few places over Bengaluru Rural, and Bengaluru Urban districts of South Interior Karnataka today. 

IMD India Forecast

In its latest bulletin issued at 8 am on Saturday, IMD said heavy to very heavy rainfall (≥12 cm) is very likely at isolated places over East Uttar Pradesh and Bihar today. Heavy showers (≥7 cm) are also very likely at isolated places over Uttarakhand, West Uttar Pradesh, West Madhya Pradesh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Madhya Maharashtra, Gujarat state, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerala.

In Bihar, IMD also warned of low to moderate “flash flood risk” in 13 districts over the next 24 hours. Heavy rain is likely in West Champaran, East Champaran, Sitamarhi, Sheohar,  Muzaffarpur, Gopalganj, Siwan, Saran, Vaishali, Patna, Jehanabad, Madhubani and Bhojpur districts, it said in a bulletin. These districts are at the risk of “low to moderate flash floods in the next 24 hours”, the MeT Department said.

"Thunderstorms, accompanied by gusty winds (speed reaching 30-40 kmph) are very likely at isolated places over Kerala and Mahe; with lightning very likely at isolated places over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-GilgitBaltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Gujarat state, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, and Telangana," it said. 

As per the MeT department, the monsoon in Maharashtra is likely to withdraw by October 5.

Further, the MeT Department warned that squally weather with wind speeds reaching 35 kmph to 45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph is likely to prevail over the Gulf of Mannar. Squally winds with speed reaching 45 kmph to 55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph are also likely
to prevail over western parts of southwest Arabian sea adjoining few parts of the west-central Arabian Sea along and off Somalia coast. "Fishermen are advised not to venture into these areas," it added.
