BJP Hits Out After Congress's 'Savarkar Samjha Kya' Post On Rahul Gandhi

Rijiju urged people not to "insult" the great personality that is Veer Savarkar. "I request with folded hands," the minister said.

Law Minister and BJP leader Kiren Rijiju on Sunday reacted after Congress took a jibe at the government, saying "Savarkar samjha kya... naam Rahul Gandhi hai" as the Delhi Police questioned Rahul Gandhi over his "women still being sexually assaulted" comment.

Rijiju urged people not to "insult" the great personality that is Veer Savarkar. "I request with folded hands," the minister said.

The Congress tweeted a photograph of the former party chief in the driver's seat of a car, and said, "Savarkar samjha kya... naam- Rahul Gandhi hai (Have you considered him Savarkar?... the name is Rahul Gandhi)."

Reacting to it, Rijiju said, "Kripya mahan atma Veer Savarkar ka apmaan na karen. Haath jod kar vinti karta hun (Please don't insult great personality Veer Savarkar. I request with folded hands)".

According to officials, a Delhi Police team questioned Rahul Gandhi at his residence on Sunday regarding his comment that "women are still being sexually assaulted" during the Bharat Jodo Yatra. They asked him to provide information about the "victims" in order to investigate their complaints.

After meeting with Delhi police officials, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was seen leaving his residence.

The Congress leader issued the 10-point response hours after a Delhi Police team knocked on his door for the third time in five days.

Rahul Gandhi's preliminary response, which was sent shortly before 4 pm, called the police action "unprecedented" and asked if it had anything to do with his position on the Adani issue taken both inside and outside Parliament, PTI reported citing sources.

According to the report, Gandhi also questioned the Delhi Police's urgency in making two visits in as many days after a 45-day gap following his speech in Srinagar.
