Qatar Amir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani To Pay 2-Day India Visit On Feb 17

Qatar's Amir Sheikh Tamim Bin Al-Thani will visit India on February 17 for bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Qatar Amir Sheikh Tamim Bin Al-Thani will pay a two-day visit to India on February 17, at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This will be his second visit to India after an earlier visit in March 2015.

The Amir of Qatar will be accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Ministers, senior officials and a business delegation, said the Ministry of External Affairs in a press release on Saturday.

During his visit, the Amir will hold bilateral talks with PM Modi on various aspects. He will also hold a discussion with President Droupadi Murmu

On February 18, the Amir will be accorded a ceremonial welcome at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhawan. The President will also host a banquet for the Amir.

"India and Qatar have deep-rooted historical ties of friendship, trust and mutual respect. In recent years, the ties between the two countries including in the areas of trade, investment, energy, technology, culture and people-to-people ties have continued to strengthen," the ministry said in its release.

"The Indian community residing in Qatar forms the largest expatriate community of Qatar, and is appreciated for its positive contribution to the progress and development of Qatar," it added.

Last month, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar visited Qatar where he met with Qatar's Prime Minister and Minister of foreign affairs Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.

The EAM said that he and Al Thani reviewed their bilateral cooperation.

In an official statement, the Ministry of External Affairs had said that S Jaishankar would meet the Qatari PM and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani. The visit aimed to review various aspects of bilateral relations between New Delhi and Doha with discussion on key areas, including political, trade, investment, energy, security, cultural, and people-to-people relations.

On December 6 last year, Jaishankar visited Qatar where he took part in the 22nd edition of the Doha Forum.
