Punjab: 710 Mobile Phones Found In Jails, VIP Rooms To Be Converted To Management Blocks
In order to end VIP culture, VIP rooms will be converted into jail management blocks, to ensure the smooth functioning of jail staff, in case of any negligence strict action will be taken.
New Delhi: The Punjab government has seized 710 mobile phones belonging to gangsters within the jail premises across the state. Strict action has been initiated against those who brought these phones inside the jail premises across the state and some officers have been suspended in view of the same. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to probe this matter, adding FIRs have also been filed in this regard, ANI reported. Mann added that all VIP rooms in jails will be converted into jail management blocks to ensure smooth functioning of the jail staff.
Mann also said that concerned officers will be held responsible for any negligence and strict actions will be taken against them.
“With a view to ending VIP culture, all VIP rooms in jails will be converted into jail management blocks to ensure smooth functioning of jail staff. Concerned officers will be held accountable in case of negligence in jail & strict action will be taken”, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann was quoted as saying by ANI.

According to media reports, in March this year, Jail Minister Harjot Singh Bains said that the state government will put an end to the use of mobile phones by inmates.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday condemned the trend of gun culture and gangsterism being "promoted" by the Punjabi singers in the larger public interest and urged them to desist from fanning violence and hatred and animosity in the society through their songs.
