Here are the key highlights of PM Modi's speech:

  • Beginning his address PM Modi said, a few days from now, On January 21 , Manipur will complete 50 years of statehood which is a proud moment for the people. He said, "there was a time when Manipur was left to be on its own. I came to Manipur multiple times before I became the PM. I knew the pain in your hearts. So, after 2014, I brought the entire Govt of India to your doorstep."
  • PM Modi further said that until a few years, only 6% of people of Manipur received piped water in their houses. Today, that network has expanded to 60% of the houses because of Jal Jeevan Mission program. He said, "You formed a stable govt in Manipur which is running with a full majority & with full force."
  • Hitting at the opposition, PM Modi said that even after 75 years of independence, a peak in Andaman & Nicobar Islands was called Mount Harriet but BJP decided to change it to Mount Manipur. Previous governments only had one policy for North-Eastern states, 'don't look East', but we adopted the Act East Policy for this area.
  • The Prime Minister further said that today, India is importing a huge amount of palm oil & spending thousands & crores of rupees on it. We want India to be Aatmanirbhar. Hence, we have come up with Rs 11,000 crore palm oil mission that will help increase the income of the farmers in the NorthEast.
  • Taking a jibe at the opposition, PM Modi said, "We should remember how the previous govts made Manipur a 'blockade state' & played politics to break the public unity. Efforts of double engine govt made sure there's no fire of militancy & insecurity, but the light of peace & development."
  • PM Modi said that Manipur has transformed from a blockade state to a route towards international trade. Our govt started the 'Go To Hills' and 'Go To Village' initiative to remove the bridge created between hills and valleys.
