Delhi Pollution: Delhi Govt And Noida Administration Gear Up For The Challenge As AQI Numbers Soar

Pollution in Delhi-NCR: The fight against pollution is not only the responsibility of governments but ours too, because we also have to bear its consequences

New Delhi: Pollution levels in Delhi-NCR are reaching alarming levels after Dussehra. With the change in weather, people may be getting relief from the scorching heat, but for Delhi and surrounding areas, the winter wave is more problematic than relief. Though light rain today will definitely reduce pollution marginally, but a tensed situation for a large population continues. 

With every passing day in Delhi, rising pollution is leading to worrisome situations The level of air pollution in Delhi was AQI 91 on October 4 which falls under the category of satisfactory. It increased a week later, on October 11, to 166.

Delhi's Kejriwal government has also announced a campaign against pollution with the help of people. The campaign will begin on Monday, October 18, under which Kejriwal has also appealed to people to switch off the engines when the red light is on and for one day in a week refrain avoid driving the car.

Delhi government also prepared 10 point action plan

  • Use of bio-decomposer for stubble melting
  • Anti-dust campaign till October 29, 31 teams formed
  • 250 teams formed to protect against burning of garbage
  • Complete ban on burning crackers
  • Initiation of installation of smog towers
  • Keeping a check on high pollution sites
  • 50 new environmental engineers recruited in 'Green War Room' , coordination with University of Chicago
  • 'Green Delhi' app for complaints of garbage burning or pollution
  • E-Waste Park in 20 Acres
  • Claims on implementation of steps to prevent jams on 64 roads with high jams

Noida and Greater Noida administrations also gear up against pollution
Not only In Delhi but also in nearby cities, the administration is in seen in action over pollution. The Noida and Greater Noida administrations have also geared up against pollution. A pollution control room has been set up in Noida, a complain regarding pollution can be registered on 0120-2336046, 47, 48 and 49. A complaint can be registered on Whatsapp number 8800882124 by sending pictures and location of pollution Officers have been deployed by dividing Greater Noida into 8 zones. Zonal officers will monitor the places under construction as well as keep an eye on transportation.

There is also a pollution problem in Delhi and nearby cities and it is a challenge to deal with it. In 2020 India has 22 of the 30 most polluted cities in the world. The world's top-10 polluted cities include 9 Indian cities. Ghaziabad is second, Bulandshahr is third, Noida is sixth and Delhi is tenth.

Certain steps to avoid the evil effects of pollution

  • Do wear a mask
  • Drink at least 4 litres of water a day
  • Clean your mouth, nose and eyes with lukewarm water when you come home from outside
  • Eat foods which are enriched with fibre, vitamins and Omega-3 like jaggery, garlic, ginger, honey, amla.
  • Change your timings of going for a walk in the morning and evening if the pollution is too high
  • Carry medicines with you if you are suffering from respiratory disease
