Earlier in the day, PM Modi held comprehensive talks with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi today where both leaders discussed multi-faceted bilateral ties and announced that the two countries have agreed to start trade settlement in their currencies. PM Modi received a ceremonial welcome at the Qasr-Al-Watan - the presidential palace - where he was greeted by the UAE President with a warm embrace.
"The respect you gave me, there is no other proof of affinity than this like a brother meeting his brother," PM Modi remarked in the meeting after his ceremonial welcome.
The Prime Minister highlighted the growing trade between the two countries saying, "Our bilateral trade has risen by 20 per cent. For the first time, we have achieved $85 billion in trade and soon we will achieve the target of $100 billion. If we decide, we can cross this milestone before the G20."
Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were exchanged between India and UAE in the presence of UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. These include a pact signed by India with the Education and Knowledge Department of Abu Dhabi for setting up the IIT Delhi campus there, establishment of a framework to promote the use of local currencies (INR-AED) for cross-border transactions by Governors of the respective Central Banks, and a pact on interlinking payment and messaging systems by Governors of the respective Central Banks.

He also spoke about the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) signed between India and UAE last year, crediting the UAE President for his cooperation in reaching the "historic agreement" within three months. He said the pact would not have been possible without President Nahyan's cooperation and commitment.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, the two countries signed the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which gave a new impetus to their economic engagement.
PM Modi's Paris Visit
PM Modi attended the Bastille Day parade in Paris as the Guest of Honour, at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron. The annual event is held to commemorate the fall of Bastille in 1789. France Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne welcomed PM Modi at the airport upon arrival on Thursday and he was accorded a ceremonial welcome.
Modi was also conferred with France's highest honor, the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honour.
Prime Minister Modi held delegation-level talks with the French President on the second day of his official visit to the country on Friday. Addressing a press conference after the meeting at Elysee Palace in Paris, PM Modi said India has taken a resolve to make itself a developed nation and in the journey, France is seen as a natural partner, news agency ANI reported.
PM Modi and French President Macron also attended the India-France CEO Forum in Paris.
During the visit, Prime Minister Modi finalised the plan to procure 26 Rafale (Marine) version jets for Indian aircraft carriers and also three additional submarines. France’s Naval Group has already built six Scorpene-class for the Indian Navy under full transfer of technology in collaboration with Mazagon Dock Ltd.
This was the second time when India announced the purchase of 26 Rafale M fighters for the Navy, following the procurement of 36 jets, made by Dassault Aviation, for the Indian Air Force in 2016.
India will be the only country that will operate both variants of the aircraft in the air and at sea.
