Atal Bihari Vajpayee undergoing dialysis, all reports normal: AIIMS health bulletin

Vajpayee was admitted this afternoon for a routine checkup.

NEW DELHI: Former Prime Minister and BJP veteran Atal Bihari Vajpayee was admitted to the AIIMS in Delhi on Monday afternoon for a "routine checkup". He has been suffering from breathing problems for a long time and had to quit politics due to health issues. The dynamic BJP leader is the oldest living ex-Prime Minister of the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also visited the BJP patriarch at the AIIMS. Modi enquired about the well-being of Vajpayee and met his family members, PTI sources said. The AIIMS administration has said that his condition is stable. AIIMS director Randeep Guleria is keeping a close check on Vajpayee’s health, the hospital said. Guleria, a pulmonologist and director at the AIIMS has served as personal physician to Vajpayee for over three decades. A BJP statement said that the leader was admitted for routine check-up and investigations on doctors' advice. The BJP stalwart was the prime minister between 1998 and 2004. As his health deteriorated, he slowly withdrew from public life and has been confined to his residence for many years.
