'Congress Hated Ambedkar, Didn't Consider Him Worth Awarding Bharat Ratna': PM Modi In Rajya Sabha

PM Modi addressed the Rajya Sabha on Thursday responding to the Motion of Thanks to the President's Address.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday trained guns on Congress saying the party believed in 'tushtikaran' (polarisation) in its rule till 2014 while his government believed in 'santushtikaran' (satisfaction).

Replying to the Motion of Thanks in Rajya Sabha, Modi said, "Country got an alternate model in 2014 and this new model believed in satisfaction and not polarisation." "Family first is on the top in Congress's model...," he added.

Further attacking the Congress, PM Modi said it is "well documented how much anger and hatred Congress had towards Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar."

"They never considered Baba Saheb worthy of the Bharat Ratna award. But today due to compulsions they are having to raise the slogan of 'Jai Bheem'...," he said.

Modi's speech in the Upper House of Parliament comes two days after the PM replied to the Motion of Thanks to the President's address in Lok Sabha.

He launched a scathing attack on Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi saying some people are openly speaking in the language of urban naxals. He also asserted that those who "declare a war" against the Indian State can neither understand the Constitution nor the country's unity.

Taking a dig at Arvind Kejriwal and Aam Aadmi Party a day before voting in Delhi for the assembly polls, Modi said some parties are like 'AAP-da' for the future of the youth".

He said that while his government's scheme saved a lot of money, it was not used to build 'Sheesh Mahal'.

He further attacked Gandhi saying those who entertain themselves by getting photo sessions done in huts of the poor will find the talk about the poor in Parliament boring.

"Those who walk around with the Constitution in their pockets, do they know how they forced Muslim women to live in hardship? We brought in the triple talaq law to give them rights," Modi said.
