PM Modi Visits Deekshabhoomi, Where BR Ambedkar And His Followers Embraced Buddhism

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Deekshabhoomi in Nagpur and paid tributes to Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday visited Deekshabhoomi in Nagpur, the place where Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar and his followers embraced Buddhism. He offered prayers to Gautam Buddha at the site.

Accompanied by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Modi reached Deekshabhoomi after paying tributes to Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) founders at the Dr Hedgewar Smruti Mandir in the city.

The PM paid tributes at memorials dedicated to RSS founder Keshav Baliram Hedgewar, and second sarsanghchalak (chief) M S Golwalkar.

RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, former Sangh general secretary Suresh Bhaiyyaji Joshi were present along with Fadnavis and Gadkari during Modi's visit to the Smruti Mandir in Reshimbagh, the administrative headquarters of the RSS.

During his visit, Modi also met with office bearers of the outfit in Smruti Bhavan located at the memorial and took group photos with them and signed the visitor's book. 

He visited the memorial for the first time since becoming the Prime Minister in 2014. His visit coincides with the Sangh's Pratipada programme, marking Gudi Padwa, the beginning of the Hindu New Year.

In the year 2000, late BJP stalwart Atal Bihari Vajpayee visited the Dr Hedgewar Smruti Mandir when he was the prime minister.

PM To Lay Foundation Stone, Inaugurate Projects 

According to a government release, PM Modi will lay the foundation stone for Madhav Netralaya Premium Centre, a new extension building of Madhav Netralaya Eye Institute and Research Centre.

The institute, founded in memory of Gowalkar, was etablished in 2104 and is a premier super-speciality ophthalmic care facility. 

The PM will also visit the Solar Defence and Aerospace Limited's ammunition facility and inaugurate the newly built 1250m long and 25m wide airstrip for Unarmed Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and the live munition and warhead testing facility to test the Loitering Munition and other guided munitions.
