Background

PM Modi's Address To Nation Live: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is addressing the nation as India continues Operation Sindoor—a major military retaliation to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam.

The Indian armed forces launched a coordinated tri-service strike on May 7, targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The operation, lasting just 25 minutes, neutralised nine key terror sites—four in mainland Pakistan and five in PoK. Over 100 terrorists were reportedly killed, as per Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.

Air strikes were carried out near Karachi, Lahore, Gujranwala, and Sialkot, with high-value targets including Jaish-e-Mohammad and Lashkar-e-Taiba bases. The Indian Air Force used Israeli HARPY drones to destroy air defence systems, while the Navy deployed carrier strike groups and submarines to Karachi waters, putting Pakistan’s military on the defensive.

Among the top terrorists eliminated were Mohammad Yusuf Azhar—mastermind of the 1999 IC-814 hijacking—and other senior Lashkar and Jaish commanders. Their funerals, attended by Pakistani military and political officials, were cited by Indian agencies as proof of state collusion with terror outfits.

The May 7 strikes eliminated five most wanted terrorists from Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad, including Mohammad Yusuf Azhar—the mastermind behind the 1999 IC-814 hijacking and brother-in-law of JeM chief Masood Azhar. Yusuf Azhar was present at JeM’s Bahawalpur headquarters when Indian munitions reduced it to rubble.

LeT terrorist Mudassar Khadian Khas alias Abu Jundal, head of Markaz Taiba in Muridke, was eliminated as well. Videos showed his funeral being attended by Pakistan Army officials, with wreaths laid on behalf of Army Chief and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz—evidence officials described as “open testimony” of Pakistan’s collusion with terror outfits.

Other terrorists killed included Khalid alias Abu Akasha—implicated in multiple Jammu & Kashmir attacks—and Mohammad Hassan Khan, son of JeM’s operational commander in PoJK, Mufti Asghar Khan Kashmiri.

Pakistan responded with drone and missile attacks across Indian territory. Indian cities like Chandigarh and Jaisalmer reported air raid sirens and blackouts. In response, India continued targeted strikes on key Pakistani air bases over the next 72 hours.

According to Air Marshal A.K. Bharti, the operation achieved its objectives with all Indian pilots returning safely. “Our aim was not escalation, but to decimate terror camps,” he said, adding that efforts were made to avoid civilian casualties and aircraft during operations.

PM Modi’s address is expected amid heightened tensions and ongoing regional developments.
