With the counting underway, former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Thursday said that the people are happy with the good governance provided by the BJP in Maharashtra and Haryana, where the party is incumbent.
Speaking to ANI, Chouhan said," BJP is surging ahead in Haryana and Maharashtra and will for government with a majority in the two states. People are happy with the good governance given by Manohar Lal Khattar and Devendra Fadnavis. They have supported us," he said.
Amid the likely scenario of a hung assembly in Haryana, Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi has also spoken to senior leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda to stake stock of the latest situation in the state.
As per the trends, the Jannayak Janta Party will be in the role of kingmaker, with both Congress and BJP failing to reach a majority mark.
Meanwhile, in Maharashtra, as per trends available for 283 of the 288 Assembly seats in the state, the BJP was leading in 99, the Shiv Sena in 61, the NCP in 49, the Congress in 41 and Independents were ahead in 15 seats.
The Bharatiya Janata Party and Shiv Sena crossed the majority mark for the 288 assembly seats in Maharashtra, by taking a combined lead on 175 seats.
The BJP had contested on 150 seats while Shiv Sena had fielded its candidates in 124 constituencies in the state. The remaining seats were left for smaller allies. On the other hand, Congress contested the polls in alliance with the NCP.
