PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti Claims She Is Under House Arrest Ahead Of Amit Shah's Rally In Baramulla

If an ex-CM’s fundamental rights can be suspended so easily, one can't even imagine the plight of a commoner, said Mufti.

New Delhi: PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday claimed that she has been placed under house arrest to prevent her from visiting north Kashmir's Pattan town, as reported by news agency PTI.

"While HM (Home Minister) is going around Kashmir beating drums of normalcy, I am under house arrest for simply wanting to visit Pattan for a worker’s wedding," she tweeted. "If an ex-CM’s fundamental rights can be suspended so easily, one can't even imagine the plight of a commoner," she added.

I was informed last night by SP Baramulla @bhatray that I wouldn’t be allowed to travel to Pattan. Today @JmuKmrPolice have themselves locked my gates from inside & are now lying through their teeth. Sad that law enforcement agencies are brazenly trying to cover up their tracks, Mufti said in another tweet.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to address a public rally in Baramulla town later today. Shah who embarked on a three-day tour to Jammu and Kashmir on Monday, will also hold a security review meeting that will focus on tackling attacks on non-locals in Kashmir, reported PTI.

He will also lay the foundation for various development projects in Srinagar, and will return to New Delhi the same evening, said the PTI report.

According to the news agency, train service between Baramulla and Budgam section has been suspended in view of Union Home Minister Amit Shah's visit to Baramulla.

Earlier in September, Mufti had accused the BJP of trying to divert people's minds from unemployment and inflation to communally sensitive issues, as reported by news agency ANI. Mufti’s remarks came after the Varanasi Court had dismissed a plea of the Anjuman Islamia Masjid committee challenging the maintainability of the suit filed by five Hindu women seeking worshipping rights in the Gyanvapi mosque compound.
