Patiala Clashes: Key Conspirator Taken Into Custody By Police, 6 Accused Arrested Till Now
The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Patiala team headed by Inspector Shaminder Singh arrested the main accused at the Mohali airport.
New Delhi: The Punjab police on Sunday morning arrested the main accused and key conspirator Barjinder Singh Parwana responsible for the clashes in Patiala. The accused was brought to Mumbai by Vistara flight at Mohali airport at 7.20 am.
According to an ANI report, the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Patiala team headed by Inspector Shaminder Singh arrested him at the Mohali airport.
MS Chhina, Patiala IG said that Parwana will be presented before a court to obtain his police remand. Police have also arrested Shankar Bhardwaj, who is Harish Singhal's known, and three more Sikh radicals also arrested. One other person who posted hate speech was arrested.
Issuing a warning to those who have been disturbing law and order situation in the city, Chhina said, "No innocent will be harassed but those involved will be arrested and we will submit chargesheets against them."
Tension prevailed in Patiala after two groups clashed outside the Kali Mata temple on Friday, brandishing swords and pelting stones at each other, at a rally in which four people, including two policemen, were injured.
Police registered six FIRs and arrested three accused in connection with the violence on Friday, according to IG, MS Chhina.
"The 3 arrested accused are Harish Singla, Kuldeep Singh Danthal, and Daljit Singh," Chinna added announcing the names of the arrested persons in the matter. The IG also asserted that none of the accused in the matter will be spared and the ones with whatever connection with the incident will be arrested.
Police and district administration authorities on Saturday claimed that the situation is under control and peaceful in the city. Heavy police security was deployed at the site of the clashes outside the Kali Mata temple here.
Various Hindu groups had given a call for a bandh in protest against Friday's incident. Several markets in Patiala city remained shut on Saturday.
Representatives of some Hindu groups lifted their 'dharna' outside the temple and deferred their proposed protest march after police and district administration assured them of action within two days against those who were behind the disturbance and violence on Friday.
