Parliament Monsoon Session: Lok Sabha Records 45% Productivity With Passage Of 22 Bills, 2 Suspensions Recorded
Lok Sabha passed 22 Bills with a productivity of 45% during the monsoon session. It also saw the suspension of two MPs.
The 12th session of the 17th Lok Sabha has been adjourned sine die, ie adjourned until further notice. Speaker Om Birla announced the adjournment for an indefinite period after three weeks of debates, discussions, arguments, walkouts, and passage of several Bills.
Here's a roundup of the monsoon session of Lok Sabha:
- The monsoon session of the Lok Sabha, which commenced on July 20, saw a total of 44.15 hours of operation in 17 sittings. A no-confidence motion was also introduced during the monsoon session by the Opposition, which was rejected.
- As many as 60 members participated in the discussion on the no-confidence motion against the Centre over the Manipur violence. PM Narendra Modi replied to the debate on Thursday.
- During the session, as many as 22 bills were passed by Lok Sabha. Oral answers were given to all the 20 starred questions on August 9.
- Among the Bills that were passed by Lok Sabha were The Anusandhan National Research Foundation Bill, 2023; The Digital Personal Data Protection Bill, 2023; The Indian Institutes of Management (Amendment) Bill, 2023; The Offshore Areas Mineral (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2023; The National Nursing and Midwifery Commission Bill, 2023, and The Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Bill, 2023.
- The productivity of Lok Sabha's monsoon session was 45%.
- Time spent on legislative matters in Lok Sabha was 16.9 hours, whereas non-legislative matters took up 20.4 hours, according to PRS India.
- Lok Sabha also saw two suspensions, those of AAP's lone MP Sushil Kumar Rinku and Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury.
- Lok Sabha also saw the return of Rahul Gandhi as an MP after the Supreme Court stayed his conviction in the 'Modi surname' disqualification case.
Speaker Om Birla expressed gratitude for cooperation during the proceedings. Thanks were extended to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, leaders of all parties, and the Members of Parliament for their participation in the monsoon session.
