Opposition's INDIA Alliance Likely To Hold Third Meeting In Mumbai On Aug 25-26: Report
Opposition's INDIA alliance is likely to hold its third big meet in Mumbai to discuss strategy for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
New Delhi: The leaders of the opposition parties will be holding their third mega meeting in Mumbai on August 25 and 26, reported the news agency PTI citing sources. The likely huddle of the 26-member INDIA coalition will be hosted jointly by the Shiv Sena (UBT) and the NCP's Sharad Pawar faction, with support from the Congress, the sources were quoted as saying by the PTI. Notably, this will be the first time that the opposition meeting will be held in a state where no member of the INDIA bloc is in power. The first meeting of the opposition parties was hosted by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's JD(U) in Patna, and the second was held in Bengaluru and was hosted by the Congress.
INDIA bloc parties are calling the Mumbai meet as the summit of these huddles where crucial discussions regarding seat sharing are expected to be taken up, PTI said. The sources said that the coordination committee has been finalised that will have 11 members. They added that it will have one member each from the Congress, TMC, DMK, AAP, JD(U), RJD, Shiv Sena (UBT), NCP, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, Samajwadi Party and the CPI(M), as per PTI. The smaller parties in the coalition will not get a berth in the committee.
Apart from this, the coalition is also likely to announce the composition of committees for communication, 2024 general election campaign and another panel to coordinate joint protests and rallies in the run-up to the polls. Sources told PTI that a joint secretariat for smooth coordination among the parties will also be announced soon.
The parties are likely to discuss their strategy for the states as well where they are in a direct poll battle. The differences among parties such as the Congress and the Left in Kerala, the Left and TMC in West Bengal, the AAP and the Congress in Punjab and Delhi, the Samajwadi Party and the Congress in Uttar Pradesh and the PDP and the National Conference in Jammu and Kashmir are issues that remain that are still to be discussed in detail.
