'Seems BJP Is Conducting Poll Campaign Through Her': Shashi Tharoor On President Murmu's Speech
The Opposition reacted to President Droupadi Murmu's speech and said that there was nothing on unemployment and inflation in her address to Parliament.
New Delhi: President Droupai Murmu on Tuesday addressed the Parliament for the first time. She addressed the joint sitting of both Houses marking the beginning of the Budget session.
Reacting to the speech, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said it seemed like the BJP government is conducting its next election campaign through President.
"The President doesn't contest elections but it looks like the BJP govt is conducting its next election campaign through her. The entire speech was an election speech trying to praise the government for everything it has done and skipping over the bits it hasn't done so well," he added, quoted ANI.
Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said that there was nothing on unemployment in President's speech.
"There was nothing on unemployment in President's Address. We and the citizens can see only the failures of the government. They only speak but don't do," he said as quoted by ANI.
He added that President's address reiterates what the government wants and does. "Naturally, President presents the government's statement. Still, we respect the President's Address," he said.
Chowdhury said that when a discussion on President's address will be done in the House, his party will present its views. He further said that there are a lot of issues against the government and his party members would raise them in Parliament one after another.
BRS MP K Keshava Rao said that President's speech did not mention the issues of unemployment and inflation in the country.
"We heard the President's address today, but there was no mention of issues of unemployment and inflation. I suggest to the President to advise the PM to bring an act called the 'Adani Act' as there is only croony capitalism now," ANI quoted him as saying.
Notably, BRS and AAP did not attend the President's address today in Parliament.
According to ANI, National Conference (NC) MP Farooq Abdullah reacted positively to President's speech and said, "It was good. It was a good address."
