NCW Takes Cognizance Of Molestation of Female Students In Gargi College; Protest Unfolds In Campus

A probe has been initiated by the Delhi Police into the alleged sexual harassment of female students even as the cops said they haven’t received a complaint so far.

New Delhi: The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken cognizance of alleged sexual assault on students of Delhi's Gargi College for women by a number of unidentified men during their annual cultural fest. Delhi Commission For Women (DCW) Chief Swati Maliwal also arrived at the College later in the day. Students have gathered in large number inside the college premises to stage protest against the incident that took place on February 6. A probe has been initiated by the Delhi Police into the alleged sexual harassment of female students even as the cops said they haven’t received a complaint so far. "We are inquiring into the matter. However, we haven't received any complaint so far," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) South, Atul Thakur. Talking to ABP News, several college students raised questions at the security arrangements by the college administration. The students who have not yet given a complaint to the police said, they will first have a talk with the college administration. Also Watch: They informed that proper arrangement of bouncers was not done by the administration despite a slated gig by a popular singer scheduled for the night. “An unruly mob of around 200 men gate-crashed the college fest at about 8 or 9 pm, it became very chaotic here,” a student who was present in the fest told ABP News. On Saturday, several students of Gargi College alleged that some "drunken men" had entered the women college's campus and misbehaved with students. The incident, the students say, took place a few days ago during Day 3 of the annual festival 'Reverie'. A group of drunken men reportedly entered the college affiliated to Delhi University and manhandled the students. "Girls were groped, locked in washrooms, stalked to the nearby Green Park metro, cat-called, eve-teased and misbehaved with during the festival," read the blog of one of the students of Gargi College.
