NCW Steps In On Ex-DMK Leader’s Alleged Sexual Exploitation Attempt On College Girls, Seeks Detailed Report

The case involves Deivaseyal, a 40-year-old DMK functionary from Arakkonam, who has been accused by his 20-year-old wife, a college student, of prolonged physical and sexual abuse.

The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken suo motu cognizance of serious allegations involving sexual harassment and abuse by a DMK Youth Wing official, urging the Tamil Nadu Director General of Police to initiate a swift and impartial investigation.

The case involves Deivaseyal, a 40-year-old DMK functionary from Arakkonam, who has been accused by his 20-year-old wife, a college student, of prolonged physical and sexual abuse. According to the survivor’s complaint, he allegedly forced her into non-consensual acts and even attempted to exploit other young women for political gain.

“He used to bite me like a mad dog,” the woman said in a widely circulated video statement that has drawn public outrage.

NCW Writes To TN DGP

In response, the NCW sent an official letter to the Tamil Nadu DGP: "In light of the grave nature of the accusations and the political affiliations of the accused, the Hon’ble Chairperson has written to the DGP of Tamil Nadu urging immediate, impartial, and transparent investigation."

"The letter emphasizes the need to ensure the survivor’s safety, constitute an independent investigation team, prevent any political interference, and take prompt action under relevant provisions of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. The Commission has also sought a detailed Action Taken Report along with a copy of the FIR within three days," it said.

Political Storm In TN

Amid mounting backlash, the DMK Youth Wing has removed Deivaseyal from his position as Deputy Secretary. However, the party has so far refrained from commenting publicly on the deeper implications of the case.

However, the allegations have ignited a political storm with the AIADMK accusing the ruling DMK of shielding the accused due to his political connections. AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami condemned the "Stalin-model" government, calling it complicit in rising crimes against women in Tamil Nadu.
