Modi In Gujarat: PM To Declare Modhera As India's First Solar-Powered Village Today

The Gujarat government said that over 1000 solar panels had been installed on the village houses, generating electricity round the clock for the villagers providing solar electricity at zero cost.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to declare Modhera, a village in Gujarat’s Mehsana district as India’s first solar-powered village on Sunday, the state government said. This is seen as a significant step towards promoting clean energy.

The Gujarat government, which shared the information in a series of tweets said that over 1000 solar panels had been installed on the village houses, generating electricity round the clock for the villagers. The solar panels will provide solar electricity to the villagers at zero cost.

According to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), PM Modi will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of multiple projects at Modhera in Mehsana at around 5:30 pm. This will be followed by Darshan and Pooja at Modheshwari Mata Temple at around 6:45 pm, followed by a visit to Surya Mandir at 7:30 pm.

The Gujarat government has also said that it has ensured the sustainable implementation of various welfare projects in Gujarat, keeping in mind the Prime Minister's vision of increasing the use of renewable energy in India. Modhera is famous for its Sun temple. The Sun Temple, which is a protected archaeological site,  will get a 3-D projection facility on October 9.

The solar-powered 3-D projection will be dedicated by PM Modi and will educate visitors about the history of Modhera, the Gujarat government had said.

Heritage lighting has been installed on the temple premises, as part of the project. Witnessing the lighting, people can visit the temple from 6 pm to 10 pm. The 3-D projection will operate every evening. Sun Temple is situated at Modhera in the Mehsana district on the river Pushpavati. It was built by King Bhima-I of the Chaulukya dynasty in 1026-27.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit be on a three-day visit to Gujarat, followed by a visit to Madhya Pradesh on October 11, according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office.

In Gujarat, the Prime Minister will dedicate and lay the groundwork for projects worth over Rs 14,500 crore.
