Mizoram-Assam Border Row: Issue To Be Resolved Through Dialogue, Says CM Zoramthanga

CM Zoramthanga conveyed the message after having telephonic discussions with the Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma, and the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah.

Following the Assam-Mizoram border conflict, the Chief Minister of Mizoram, Zoramthanga, said that the dispute between the two states will be resolved through dialogue and negotiation in an amicable way. He conveyed this message after having telephonic discussions with the Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, and the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah.

“As per telephonic discussion with Union Home Minister and Assam Chief Minister, we agreed to resolve the Mizoram-Assam Border issue amicably through meaningful dialogue,” read the tweet by CM Zoramthanga on Sunday.

The Chief Minister of Mizoram also appealed to the people of his state to avoid posting any sensitive messages. He further suggested making judicious use of social media platforms in order to prevent any further escalation and worsening of the situation.

After the death of 5 Assam police personnel on July 26 on the Assam-Mizoram border, a series of blames and allegations surfaced from both States.

The Chief Ministers of both the states had also earlier appealed to the Union Home Minister, urging him to look into the matter.

The Assam Government had recently issued an advisory, suggesting its people refrain from travelling to Mizoram while the latter had filed an FIR against the Chief Minister of Assam and many other high-ranking officers of the state.
