MJ Akbar returns to India amid sexual harassment allegations; says 'there will be a statement later on'
Akbar, who was on a trip abroad, has so far not offered any comment in public over the issue and is expected to provide an explanation today.
New Delhi: Minister of State for External Affairs M J Akbar embroiled in sexual harassment allegations leveled by a number of women returned to India on Sunday morning. On being asked for a statement on the charged leveled upon him in the wake of the recent MeToo movement, he told the mediapersons that there will be a statement later on.
The Bharatiya Janata Party which is silent over the accusations of the senior party leader will be clearing its stand after Akbar’s statement. Akbar’s future in the union cabinet will be decided thereafter.
Akbar, who was on a trip abroad, has so far not offered any comment in public over the issue. Union ministers and BJP spokespersons have mostly declined to answer any query on Akbar.
The Congress party has been vocally demanding the resignation of Akbar. It has said he should either issue a satisfactory explanation or resign.
