Meeting Of 'INDIA' Bloc Leaders With MPs Who Returned From Manipur Underway To Discuss Floor Strategy

A meeting of 'INDIA' coalition leaders is underway to discuss strategy for the ongoing monsoon session of Parliament.

A meeting of the leaders of the opposition's INDIA alliance is underway to discuss the strategy for the floor of the House. MPs who visited Manipur recently are also present in the meet at the Congress Parliamentary Party CPP office in Room no 53 at the Parliament House building to discuss the strategy for the floor of the House. Congress parliamentary party chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge are also attended the meeting.

The MPs would apprise the floor leaders about the situation in Manipur after their two-day visit to the violence-torn state. The leaders returned from the northeastern state on Sunday (July 30). This comes as Parliament's monsoon session is set to resume today for another week amid ongoing debate on Manipur.

The Opposition parties have been demanding a discussion on the issue of Manipur since the beginning of the Monsoon Session on July 20. Demanding a discussion and answers from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Opposition parties including Congress have been creating a ruckus in both Houses of the Parliament, stalling its proceedings.

Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla on Sunday said that every serious issue should be discussed but there should be no disruption in state assemblies and Parliament as people have a lot of expectations from these "temples of democracy". Birla made the statement during his address to MLAs and MPs from northeastern states and other dignitaries at the inauguration ceremony of the new building of Assam Legislative Assembly.

Opposition leaders visited relief camps, met the Manipur governor and urged the authorities to restore peace in the violence-torn state. They have been demanding PM Narendra Modi's statement on the matter inside Parliament has been hampering the business of the House for the last two weeks. Now, as the Monsoon session resumes for another week, the leaders are likely to intensify their agitation.

While the delegation asked the Governor to restore normalcy in the state as soon as possible, it also criticised the Union and state governments for turning a blind eye to the state's 'precarious' and 'volatile' situation.
