In a gruesome case that has shocked Meerpet, the Rachakonda police have arrested a former jawan, for allegedly murdering his wife, Putta Venkata Madhavi, and attempting to destroy evidence. The former jawan, Putta Gurumurthy, reportedly murdered his wife in a fit of rage after an argument at his house.
On Tuesday, Gurumurthy was taken into custody following a detailed investigation based on technical evidence. According to a report on The Indian Express, Rachakonda Police Commissioner G Sudheer Babu said the accused showed no remorse for his actions. He also said that the accused did not feel guilt for committing the crime.
On the day of the murder, Gurumurthy and Madhavi reportedly had an argument over an issue when Gurumuthy suddenly smashed his wife's head against the wall. In this, Madhavi died on the spot. Soon, he allegedly decided to dispose of the body in a way that there was no evidence.
He reportedly chopped the body, boiled them in water, and burnt some of them on the stove and flushed the remaning in the drain, as reported by Deccan Herald. In an attempt to erase evidence, he allegedly boiled the remains in a pressure cooker, separated the bones from the flesh, and crushed them before cooking them again. He then packed the remains in a bag and disposed of them in a nearby lake, police sources told Times of India.
The case came to light after Madhavi’s mother, Subamma, filed a missing person complaint on January 18. Police investigations revealed that Madhavi had left home on January 16 following an argument with her husband. Further, the police cracked the case with the help of CCTV footage. Subsequent inquiries led authorities to Gurumurthy, who allegedly confessed to the crime.
The police have booked him under various sections of Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) Act.
Meanwhile, the couple had been married for 13 years and had two children. The accused also reportedly cleared the home and when their children enquired about their mother, he just informed them that she went out.
