Manipur Violence: CM Biren Singh Assures Punishment For Killers Of Students

The CBI has taken over the investigation of the "kidnapping and killing" of two Imphal youths, following which the Manipur CM N Biren Singh has said that the culprits will be caught soon.

Amid the ongoing protests over the deaths of two students, who were missing since July, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh while speaking to the media said that culprits will definitely be caught. A CBI team led by the agency's Special Director Ajay Bhatnagar arrived in Imphal on Wednesday to investigate the alleged "kidnapping and killing" of the two students.

"Definitely, we will catch the culprits. Everything will be fine soon," Manipur CM was quoted by ANI on the CBI team investigating the death of the two youths. However, he said that he couldn't give details of the investigation.

A fresh bout of protests erupted on Tuesday after the photos of the two youths – a man and a girl – went viral on social media. Due to this, the state government suspended mobile internet service for five days until October 1. Schools in the state were shut until Friday and curfew restrictions were imposed in all districts of the Imphal Valley.

The CBI teams will have to visit the crime scene, recreate it, collect forensic evidence, and send it to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory. CBI officials will be accompanied by Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel while they visit violence-hit areas during their investigations.
