West Bengal Govt Extends Covid Restrictions Till July 1; Check What’s Open, What’s Shut

Kolkata: In view of the rise in active Covid-19 cases, the West Bengal government on Monday extended the restrictions in the state till July 1.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) government in the state has, however, exempted essential services.

“All government offices will function with 25% strength. The private and corporate offices will remain open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with not more than 25% strength,” said Banerjee while making the announcement.

“The movement of people will be restricted between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.,” she added.

The TMC supremo further said the “restaurants with bars can open between 12 noon and 8 p.m. with 50% seating capacity”.

West Bengal Chief Secretary H.K. Dwivedi said the restrictions on transportation services will continue in the state.

He further said the sports events can be organised inside the stadium in West Bengal but without any spectator.

The shops in shopping malls and complexes in the state are allowed to open between 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. with 50% workforce. All educational institutes and waterways will, however, continue to remain closed.

The decision comes as the state’s Covid-19 tally rose to 14,61,257 on Sunday as 3,984 more people tested positive for the virus. The death toll in West Bengal increased to 16,896 as 84 more people succumbed to the virus.

As per a health bulletin, the state’s North 24 Parganas district recorded the highest number of new cases at 597 followed by 426 cases in capital Kolkata.
