Maharashtra Floods: 101 Deaths Recorded In Two Months As Rain Continues To Batter State

Though the intensity of rain has reduced in capital Mumbai, the state is still dealing with problems of floods and waterlogging.

The number of deaths in Maharashtra due to rain and floods has risen to more than 100 in two months. Since June 1, as many as 101 people lost their lives so far in the state due to floods and rains. While 123 people have been injured, 13 people have been reported to be missing from the state due to different rain and flood accidents. At the same time, the deaths of about 126 animals have also been registered.

Though the intensity of rain has reduced in capital Mumbai, the state is still dealing with problems of floods and waterlogging. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an 'orange' alert for Thane, forecasting heavy rainfall. Schools in the district have been shut down as well. The incessant rainfall has triggered waterlogging in several areas of Thane.

Mumbai, which was under a Red alert on Thursday, is slated to receive 'very heavy rainfall' on Friday as well. The city is currently under a 'yellow alert'.

The eastern city Nanded reported heavy rainfall on Thursday leading to flooding in certain areas. The flood resulted in the unfortunate loss of two lives and the evacuation of 60-70 families to safety, according to officials. Nanded experienced intense rain throughout the day, causing water to enter homes in many areas.

The backwater of Suvarna Dam led to water entering homes in Islapur and Apparaopeth. Following coordination with Telangana authorities, six gates of the dam have been opened. Consequently, roads leading to Apparaopeth village have been closed due to waterlogging.

Floods have affected Patodathadi, Mashti, and Mokli villages as well. In Dharmabad taluka's Bannali village, approximately 60-70 families were relocated to a safer location, namely a community hall, due to continuous rainfall. Additionally, 35 individuals from Barad and 25 from Nageli were also shifted to safety.
