Madhya Pradesh: Former CM Kamal Nath Resigns As LoP, Govind Singh To Lead Congress In Assembly

The Congress party accepted his resignation and appointed Dr. Govind Singh as the leader of the Congress Legislature party making him the Leader of the Opposition in the state assembly.

New Delhi: Madhya Pradesh Assembly’s Leader of Opposition (LoP) and Congress leader Kamal Nath stepped down from the position on Thursday and submitted his resignation, news agency ANI reported.

The Congress party accepted his resignation and appointed Dr. Govind Singh as the leader of the Congress Legislature party, making him the Leader of the Opposition in the state assembly. Singh is the MLA from Lahar in Bhind district.

Kamal Nath, who is the state party president, resigned as CLP leader in view the party's "one person, one post" policy.

Congress has been revamping its units in many states following the poll debacle in five states. 

Haryana

On Wednesday, Udai Bhan was appointed as the new Haryana unit chief. Bhan is a former four-time MLA and a loyalist of former Haryana CM Bhupinder Hooda. The party appointed four working presidents of the state unit as well.

Rajasthan

Last week, there was speculation of a possible revamp in the party’s Rajasthan unit as well. Recently, Sachin Pilot and Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot met interim president Sonia Gandhi at her residence in Delhi. 

Post the meetings, Gehlot said that his resignation is permanently with Sonia Gandhi, and if the CM will be changed, no one will get a hint about it beforehand. 

“My resignation is permanently present with Sonia Gandhi, so there is no point in repeatedly asking if the CM is going to change. The Chief Minister will change when it has to be changed and no one will get to know anything about it,” he has said.

Congress has started preparing for the upcoming assembly polls as well as the 2024 general elections, and their preparations are evident with the revamp.
