'Can't Disappoint People Of Jamui': Chirag Paswan On Leaving Seat To Contest From Hajipur In LS Polls
Lok Sabha MP Chirag Paswan finds himself at a crossroads as he ponders contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from Hajipur leaving his current constituency of Jamui.
Chirag Paswan, the President of Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) - Ram Vilas, on Tuesday, expressed that he finds himself at a crossroads as he ponders contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from Hajipur as he asserted that his attachment to Jamui, cultivated over nine years of representing the Lok Sabha constituency, remains steadfast. He spoke about the possibility of his party fielding candidates in both Hajipur and Jamui constituencies in Bihar.
Speaking to news agency ANI, Chirag Paswan said, "Time will tell, I can't disappoint the public of Jamui, but with the situation ahead, I can't decide now."
The potential dual candidacy in both Hajipur and Jamui hinges on the willingness of his mother to contest from Hajipur. Chirag Paswan explained, "If my mother contests from Hajipur, it would be easier for me to continue in Jamui." However, he also acknowledged that if she declines or is unable to contest, he would accept the decision of the LJP Ram Vilas Parliamentary Board.
He emphasised, "My connect with Jamui will stay the same, whatever may be the case." The final decision, he noted, would only crystallise as the elections draw closer.
This come as Union Minister Pashupati Kumar Paras earlier dismissed the possibility of reconciliation with his nephew, Chirag Paswan. Speaking at an event in New Delhi, Paras categorically stated that he would "never" reconcile with Chirag. He further expressed that neither he nor his family members would "ever forgive Chirag" for the manner in which he treated them during the illness and passing of his late brother and former Lok Janshakti Party chief, Ram Vilas Paswan, according to a PTI report.
The late Ram Vilas Paswan, a revered Dalit leader and a political heavyweight in Bihar, passed away in October 2020 after an extended illness. Following his demise, the Lok Janshakti Party witnessed a schism driven by differences between his son, Chirag, and his younger brother, Paras. Paras alleged that Chirag threatened to oust him from the party.
Pashupati Paras recounted, "He (Ram Vilas Paswan) had asked me to contest from his Hajipur Lok Sabha seat after he was elected to the Rajya Sabha, saying he trusted me more than anyone in the family. I was not willing to contest from the seat, but he made me join the fray from his constituency."
