Lieutenant Rekha Singh traveled to eastern Ladakh, nearly three years after she lost her husband in the Galwan Valley clashes between India and China, to oversee the Army's supply chain of equipment, clothing, and ammunition at a forward location along the Line of Actual Control.
Lt Rekha was commissioned as an officer in the Army Ordnance Corps, which is responsible for providing material and logistical support to the force in the event of a war.

Lt Rekha said during the passing out parade in April this year at the Officers' Training Academy (OTA), Chennai, that the commissioning is a proud moment for her and her family. For the past 11 months, she has been undergoing rigorous training as an Army cadet at the academy. Senior military officials, including Lt Gen Adosh Kumar, Colonel Commandant and Director General of Artillery (Designate), as well as other dignitaries and family members of the newly commissioned officers, attended the ceremony.
"My husband, wherever he is, must be overjoyed. This was a difficult decision, but I wanted to feel and experience everything my husband did. As a result, I decided to join the Indian Army," she stated after the parade.
