Lakhimpur Kheri Violence: CPM MP Writes To PM Modi, Demands Ajay Mishra’s Removal From Union Cabinet

“The barbaric attack on farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri is said to be a part of this conspiracy to crush down this protest,” he added.

New Delhi: CPI (M) Rajya Sabha MP Elamaram Kareem has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and demanded removal of Minister of State for Home Ajay Kumar Mishra from the Union Cabinet “in the light of his direct involvement in the attack against farmers” in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri.

Kareem in his letter said the farmers have been carrying out their peaceful protest against the three farm bills and for the enactment of a law on MSP among other demands for the last 10 months.

“The barbaric attack on farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri is said to be a part of this conspiracy to crush down this protest,” he added.

Kareem said “this cruelty on peaceful, protesting farmers denotes complete lack of governance” and “exposes the jungle raj” in Uttar Pradesh.

Demanding that an “impartial investigation” must be done to punish all the culprits behind this “heinous crime”, the CPI (M) MP said the “safety of the people involved in democratic processes” must be ensured by the governments in the future.

Kareem said the entire nation has been shocked hearing the news of the “most gruesome killing” of the farmers, who were “peacefully protesting” in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri.

Asserting that four farmers were mowed down by the car driven by the Minister of State for Home’s son on October 3, Kareem said “there is clear evidence of the convoy, with sirens blazing, driving into the farmers and killing them”.

“It is quite unfortunate and condemnable that a Union Minister, who is responsible for protecting the life of the people, has become part of a criminal conspiracy along with his son to murder farmers by running vehicles over them,” said Kareem, ANI reported.

The CPI (M) MP said the Minister of State for Home “blatantly violated all democratic norms” and his responsibility towards the people of this nation by making a “most provocative speech” earlier on September 25 and “threatening and inciting violence” against the farmers, who were protesting against the farm laws.

“Even after the killings, in which his son was involved, the Minister has justified the atrocity blaming the farmers. He accused the injured and killed farmers as “outsiders” and claimed the involvement of “Khalistani” elements to defend himself and his dear ones,” said Kareem.

Asserting no enquiry can be “impartial” with Ajay Kumar Mishra as the Minister of State for Home, Kareem said: “I hereby demand you for an urgent sacking of the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs for his direct responsibility in the barbaric atrocity.”
