5 Terrorists Killed In J&K's Kulgam Encounter, Operation Underway

An encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in J&K's Kulgam on Thursday. Five terrorists were gunned down during the encounter. The operation is still underway.

Five terrorists were killed in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam encounter. Out of the five, three belonged to Lashkar-e-Taiba, as reported by news agency ANI. The operation is underway. Army's 34 Rashtriya Riffles, 9 Para (elite special forces unit), Police and CRPF are carrying out the operation.

The joint team of Police, Army and CRPF launched a search operation in the area after receiving information about the presence of militants. During the search, an encounter broke out between security forces and militants in the Samnoo area of Kulgam district. 

PTI shared the visual of the house in which terrorists were reportedly holed up following the encounter.

Indian Aerospace Defence News said that the Army had eliminated two terrorists on Thursday in Kulgam.

Meanwhile, the Army thwarted a terrorist infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri Sector on Wednesday, reported ANI. This was the second bid of terrorists to infiltrate in the same region. The Army said that two infiltrators including Bashir Ahmed Malik (An important cog in the Pakistan-enabled cross-border terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir) were killed.

Earlier last week, a militant from The Resistance Front (TRF), an offshoot of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), was gunned down by the security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district during an encounter. According to a PTI report, the security forces began a cordon and search operation in the Kathohalan area after receiving information about the presence of terrorists. During the operation, the militants opened fire on the forces after which they retaliated. 

Back in October, two more terrorists were gunned down by security forces. An encounter broke out on specific information by the Kupwara Police, said the Kashmir Zone Police.
