Kerala Braces For Heavy Rains As IMD Issues Orange & Yellow Alerts In 12 Districts

In Kerala, an orange warning, indicating the likelihood of very heavy rainfall between 12 and 20 cm in a 24-hour period, has been issued for Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragode on May 20.

In anticipation of intense showers, the IMD has issued orange and yellow alerts to various districts.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast widespread rainfall across Kerala and parts of Lakshadweep over the coming days, as the southwest monsoon continues to progress over the Indian subcontinent. In anticipation of intense showers, the IMD has issued orange and yellow alerts to various districts.

According to the IMD, the southwest monsoon advanced further over additional areas of the south Arabian Sea, Maldives and the Comorin region, along with parts of the south and central Bay of Bengal, as well as the northeastern Bay, as of Monday, May 19.

Kerala District-Wise Rainfall Alerts

An orange warning, indicating the likelihood of very heavy rainfall between 12 and 20 cm in a 24-hour period, has been issued for the following districts: May 20: Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragode, May 23 (Day 5): Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam, and Idukki. 

Meanwhile, a yellow warning, which predicts heavy rainfall ranging from 7 to 11 cm in 24 hours, is in place for: May 20: Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, and Malappuram, May 21: Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragode.
