‘Not Given Adequate Security’: Shekhawat Blames Gehlot Govt For Gogamedi’s Murder, Rajput Community Protests

The murder of Sukhdev Singh Gogamed, according to the Union minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, shocked him.

After Right-wing group Shri Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena's president Sukhdev Singh Gogamed's murder, Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat slammed Ashok Gehlot's government for not providing adequate security to the slain leader, news agency ANI reported. Hitting out at the state government, Shekhawat stated: "He wasn't given adequate security even after he reported about threats to his life to the police. After forming govt in Rajasthan, we will ensure peace and calm in the state. I assure you that those involved in this incident will not be spared. I appeal to the public to maintain peace."

The incident, according to the Union minister, startled him. "I have spoken to the police commissioner and asked him to arrest the accused as soon as possible," he stated, adding that making the state crime-free is one of the BJP government's goals, which would be sworn in shortly. In the recently concluded assembly election, the BJP beat the governing Congress.

BJP Leader Col Rajyavardhan Rathore said he was shocked by the incident. "It is an appeal to all of you to maintain peace and patience in this difficult time. The criminals will be caught as soon as possible. I am in constant touch with the police," he posted on his official X handle.

On the murder of Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena chief in Jaipur, BJP Rajasthan chief CP Joshi said: "An attempt is being made to create an atmosphere of anarchy in the state. Sukhdev ji had requested police protection following threats. It is a matter of investigation as to why he wasn't given protection. I have requested the police to take action and immediately arrest the accused. This is the result of the last 5 years of governance in the state."

Meanwhile, members of the Rajput community protest outside a hospital in Jaipur where the lifeless remains of Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi, national chief of the Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena, are being held.

Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi was shot dead in his living room on Tuesday by three armed men, one of whom was also killed in retaliatory fire, according to police.

According to them, one of Gogamedi's security guards was shot in the exchange of fire with the assailants, who had gone to his residence in the Shyam Nagar neighbourhood on the pretext of seeing him.

Jaipur Police Commissioner Biju George Joseph told reporters: "Three men went to Gogamedi's house and told his security guards that they wanted to meet him. The guards took them inside and the men talked to Gogamedi for 10 minutes before opening fire at him."
