The district judge’s relatives expressed satisfaction over the formation of a Special Investigation team (SIT) to probe the death case.

Ranchi: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Friday met the relatives of Additional District and Sessions Judge Uttam Anand, who was allegedly killed in Dhanbad.

The district judge’s relatives expressed satisfaction over the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the death case. They also requested the Chief Minister to provide the judge’s wife a job on the basis of a compassionate appointment.

“The family members of late Justice Uttam Anand met Chief Minister Shri @ Hemant Soren. The family members expressed satisfaction over the high-level investigation and formation of #SIT regarding the matter. The Chief Minister said it is the priority of the government that the family should get justice,” the Office of Chief Minister, Jharkhand, tweeted in Hindi.

The Dhanbad police have taken both the arrested auto drivers Lakhan Verma and his accomplices Rahul Verma on five days’ remand in connection with the case.

This came as both were produced in Dhanbad Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) residential court late on Thursday night which sent them to custody.

Expressing serious concern over the law and order situation in Jharkhand, the lawyers across the state abstained from work on Friday to protest against the alleged mowing down of the judge by a heavy auto-rickshaw and murder of an advocate earlier.

They also demanded the implementation of the Advocates Protection Act in Jharkhand for the safeguard of advocates and their functions in the discharge of the professional duties.

The Jharkhand High Court has set up an SIT to probe the killing of the district judge, who was knocked down by an auto-rickshaw earlier on Wednesday while on his morning walk.

The SIT, headed by Police Additional Director General (ADG) Sanjay Anand Lathkar, is investigating the matter.
